Conflicts & New Business New Matter Analyst Washington, DC, USA Job Description Posted Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at 5:00 AM The Washington, DC office of Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP, a leading intellectual property law firm, is seeking a Conflicts & New Business Analyst. The Conflicts & New Business Analyst will utilize knowledge of conflicts detection methods and internal/external resources to research and gather conflicts, financial, and other relevant data on potential clients, case work, new hires, marketing, and promotional requests. Responsibilities Monitor and respond to conflict-checking emails, requests for new clients and new matters for existing client approval, requests to clear candidates, and other information requests. Administer the conflicts review process for candidates and new business intake, including: Executing searches and conducting research using firm databases and other resources on all company names submitted for employment and new business, as well as associated names, adverse parties, subsidiaries, or affiliated entities, to identify potential conflicts. Analyzing and interpreting database and research results to identify potential issues that may affect compliance with firm policies and professional conduct rules, performing due diligence and credit checks, and following up with relevant personnel. Generating accurate conflicts reports, summarizing findings, making preliminary judgments, and communicating results and recommendations to decision-makers, resolving potential conflicts with attorneys. Collaborating with attorneys, recruiters, and others to obtain additional information and determine the best course of action to resolve conflicts, including understanding client disclosure obligations and limitations. Recommending and initiating courses of action to mitigate vulnerabilities, including drafting and tracking documents such as engagement letters, ethical wall memos, accommodation letters, waiver letters, and joint representation agreements. Maintain and monitor adherence to protocols for new business clearance, including educating staff and attorneys on conflict disclosure procedures. Manage the firm’s Ethical Wall databases and collaborate with Loss Prevention Counsel on internal monitoring to uphold ethical standards. Coordinate with firm members to ensure outside communications do not conflict with firm interests. Perform projects efficiently, troubleshoot issues, organize tasks, and report on project progress. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Previous experience in conflicts checking preferred. Strong data entry, word processing, and analytical skills with attention to detail. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet research skills. Ability to interpret conflicts reports and communicate findings effectively. Excellent written and oral communication skills, professional interaction, and ability to work independently and in teams.
