This is the targeted range of possible compensation at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. Base pay within the range is determined by a candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications. Job Description The Dance Programming Assistant Manager works within the Dance Programming department to manage all logistical planning and communication to ensure the success of the Kennedy Center ballet and dance subscription series and related programming. The Assistant Manager must be able to make decisions and prioritize under pressure due to time-sensitive, concurrent deadlines. An eagerness to listen, communicate openly, and problem-solve in a collaborative environment is essential. An ideal candidate is creative and has familiarity with and perspectives on the global dance field. Key Responsibilities Project Management: Execute logistics for all performances, events, and activities for the Dance and Ballet subscription series. Duties include, but are not limited to: Arrange, negotiate, and manage contracts and payments for hotels and artist transportation as needed. Act as primary liaison between visiting artists and Center departments for a portion of the Dance season. Manage visa needs for international companies and artists in coordination with the Office of General Counsel when acting as primary liaison. Lead the department’s supernumerary program, arrange and manage auditions, and oversee paperwork and payments for performers. Maintain contact with production managers, orchestra manager, education staff, press, marketing, events, and theater managers to facilitate information flow and scheduling. Handle company management tasks including travel, housing, meals, fee payments, programs, tickets, and hospitality when needed. Track payments and maintain budgets with guidance from the Director to keep the department financially sound. With guidance from the Director, hire interpreters, musicians, conductors, dancers, and performance staff when necessary. Attend performances as a dance programming representative. Direct, curate, and produce assigned programs (with Director’s input) supporting the dance community in the DMV area, including the Local Dance Commissioning Project and National Dance Day. Lead department colleagues and serve as the main contact for participating artists. Interview, train, and manage department interns. Serve as primary liaison for Dance Programming’s Community Partnerships with Social Impact colleagues. Handle administrative responsibilities for the office, including ordering supplies, booking travel, and processing payments. Attend meetings to ensure information sharing and action item progression. Other duties as assigned. Key Qualifications Experience in dance touring, presenting, and/or management required. Two or more years of experience managing and supervising groups with strong leadership skills required. Ability to communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders. Strong organization, problem-solving, time management, and ability to manage multiple projects; creative with knowledge of the global dance field. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred. Local candidate or willingness to relocate to the DMV area (relocation assistance not provided). Willingness to work onsite. Additional Information Must be able to work odd hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional weeks beyond 40 hours. Occasional travel may be required. On-call during performance weeks and travel days. Weekend and evening hours are required and scheduled in advance. Travel may be required.
