Department Overview Risk and Safety Services is comprised of five departments and each of these units is dedicated to maintaining and promoting an aspect of the health and safety of all members of the campus community. Risk and Safety Services provides leadership and coordinates multidisciplinary services to sustain a safe and healthy campus by managing risk, preventing injury and loss, and coordinating access, emergency response, and recovery. Risk Services is a department within Risk and Safety Services, which supports the campus by helping departments identify their risk exposures, recommending strategies to reduce or eliminate identified risks, and administering the campus insurance programs to facilitate maximum recovery from accidental losses. Job Summary Under the general supervision of the Disability Management Services Manager, the Disability Management Analyst supports access for academic and staff employees with disabilities in the workplace. The Disability Management Analyst will exercise collaborative leadership in advancing the equal participation of all employees with disabilities through the interactive process. The Disability Management Analyst serves as a primary resource to the campus community regarding academic and staff employees' programmatic access as mandated by state and federal laws. The Disability Management Analyst serves as one of two campus employment program access managers, and works strategically and collaboratively with the campus ADA Officer to support strategic ADA compliance in this area. The Disability Management Analyst is expected to work at a high level of autonomy and exercise independent judgment, where appropriate, to identify, address, and resolve systemic and individual barriers for employees with disabilities in all aspects of the university.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION Budgeted Salary: $115,000 - $132,348/annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

Job Duties 60% - Disability Management - Provide counseling to employees with disabilities, and analyze essential functions of positions to determine appropriate reasonable accommodations that meet functional limitations. Conduct worksite evaluations and make recommendations regarding reasonable accommodations. Identify areas of potential conflict needing negotiation.
- Serve as agent of the University in the interactive process, frequently working with a team of managers and other experts. Develop reasonable accommodation recommendations; provide consultation for job restructuring, worksite modification and acquisition of adaptive services. Research, order, receive, deliver and install or coordinate installation of recommended ergonomic equipment. Demonstrate, instruct and advise on appropriate use of equipment.
- Determine eligibility for Reassignment for alternate positions; facilitate alternate job search for employees. Analyze position skills, knowledge and abilities with employees. Counsel employees regarding positions for which they are qualified within their skills and functional limitations. Consult with potential departments regarding referral and discussion of applicants qualified for Reassignment. Provide guidance to hiring authority on Policy.
- Provide advice and guidance to unit heads, managers and supervisors regarding compliance with federal and state regulations regarding qualified individuals with disabilities. Provide high-level expert policy advice. Provide disability case management for occupational and non-occupational medical situations.
- Contact internal and external medical providers to obtain medical information and documentation of functional capacities. Analyze, interpret, and coordinate the acquiring of medical information in accordance with the Policy in order to comply with the Pregnancy Leave Act, CA Family Rights Act, CA Fair Employment and Housing Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, and the U.S. Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Represent the University of California as an expert witness for disability management services. Testify in Federal and State courts regarding disability discrimination actions alleged to have occurred at the University. Testify as a witness or disability management expert at hearings.
- Consult broadly with essential campus constituencies including Office of Equity and Equal Protection and Campus Counsel and Office of General Counsel to recommend action regarding medical separation requests.
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine feasibility for disability management services at the request of the University Workers' Compensation Third Party Administrator, University of California Retirement Plan (UCRP), and claims vendor. Refer employees as needed for appropriate disability-related assessments.
- Conduct detailed job analyses on specific positions to ascertain physical requirements needed to perform duties or to provide reasonable accommodation. Conduct job analyses in response to requests from Workers' Compensation.
25% - Program and Policy Implementation - Provide expert policy interpretation and procedural guidelines on Medical Separation, Reasonable Accommodation, selection and recruitment and analogous labor contract sections. Provide leadership and guidance to assist department administrators with obligations under California Fair Employment and Housing (FEHA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Policy and Contracts.
- Review, analyze and propose modifications to policies, procedures and programs as a Disability Management liaison with the Office of the President.
