SUMMARY: Under immediate supervision, responsible for professional employment counseling work of routine difficulty in local employment service offices and performs related work as required. Responsibilities Counsel job applicants and assist them in overcoming barriers preventing employment. Conduct personal interviews, administer and evaluate proficiency and aptitude tests and scores. Evaluate applicants’ work skills and abilities, counsel applicants in pinpointing and developing realistic vocational goals. Refer applicants to appropriate training and educational programs, supportive service agencies, and employers. Follow up on all referrals by telephone or through personal contact to determine applicant satisfaction and placement success. Maintain extensive confidential written narratives of all contacts and counseling services provided. Prepare training contracts and complete a variety of employment security statistical documents required by federal reporting guidelines. Administer, score and interpret aptitude, proficiency and interest inventory tests to accurately determine applicant capabilities and interests. May speak to local community groups and schools to inform the public about the variety of employment service programs available to them through employment security offices. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in a social or behavioral science or other related acceptable field. Qualifying full‑time professional employment counseling or related counseling experience may be substituted for the required education, on a year‑for‑year basis, to a maximum of four years. Passing score of 70 or greater on the written test (96 multiple choice questions divided into five individual test sections). Exam Method Written Test, 100%. Bereavement Leave: 3 days with pay plus up to 2 additional days of sick leave (total 5 days). Military Leave: Granted in accordance with applicable state and federal laws. Holidays: 11 paid holidays per year. Deferred Compensation: Employees may contribute to a 401(k) or 457 plan with state match, minimum $20 monthly contribution.
