Professional Math Tutor – Inside Higher Ed Join to apply for the Professional Math Tutor role at Inside Higher Ed . Position Summary The Student Support Services Professional Tutor (SSST) provides tutorial support for students in lab, one‑on‑one, or open classroom settings. The SSST offers content‑specific assistance, tracks student progress each semester, and supports retention and graduation. Salary Local Salary Schedule $20.15 per hour, up to 19 hours per week. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provides academic assistance to assigned students, either individually or in groups. Assists students in achieving a deeper understanding of specific subject areas and improves academic abilities. Attends periodic training or orientation sessions as required by faculty or director. Documents student progress and provides evaluations and reports as requested. Motivates and supports students’ achievement and success, fostering positive attitudes toward learning. Establishes and maintains rapport with assigned students, serving as a role model and ensuring an inclusive learning environment. Monitors academic progress and contacts faculty and staff throughout the semester as necessary. Upholds professional ethical standards, maintains confidentiality, and keeps a clean, organized office environment. Attends professional development workshops, seminars, and conferences to stay current with best practices. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education, Standards, and Training Bachelor’s degree in mathematics required; Master’s degree preferred. Three years of successful teaching experience in mathematics or a related field. Experience working with disadvantaged students and administering diagnostic tests preferred. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills; computer proficiency required. Other Qualifications and Job Requirements Flexibility within the work environment. Experience working with first‑generation, low‑income, and/or disabled students. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to effectively operate and utilize a computer and internet. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, SMART Technologies, and Blumen System (preferable). Work flexible schedule, including nights as needed. Commitment to continuous improvement and initiative.
